About The Position

The Assistant Women's Basketball Coach is responsible for assisting the head coach with recruiting, coaching, and training student-athletes in women's basketball. The role aims to prepare student-athletes for success in NCAA Division I competition and ensure their satisfactory academic progress through graduation. Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) is a dynamic university with a diverse student body and a beautiful campus located on Corpus Christi Bay.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two (2) years related experience.
  • High school diploma/GED and six (6) years related experience (may substitute for Bachelor's degree and 2 years experience).
  • Associate’s degree and four (4) years related experience (may substitute for Bachelor's degree and 2 years experience).
  • Master’s degree (may substitute for Bachelor's degree and 2 years experience).
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Knowledgeable of NCAA Division 1 rules and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate with students, staff, faculty, coaches, and sponsors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and tactical instruction, demonstration, and teaching of basketball dynamics to student-athletes to ensure the full potential of individuals and the team.
  • Communicate and motivate effectively with student-athletes to ensure improvement, development, and progression.
  • Utilize evaluation tools to monitor training progress and analyze performances.
  • Assist in implementing practice plans and coaching the team during scheduled competitions/events.
  • Position the program to achieve competitive goals as established with athletics administration.
  • Maintain effective, proactive, and responsive communication within the athletics program, emphasizing relationships with the head coach, sport administrators, and support services.
  • Act as a professional representative of the University and a role model for student-athletes, the Department, and the community.
  • Operate within the rules, regulations, and policies of the University and the Athletics Department.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recruit athletically and academically qualified student-athletes who can compete successfully and graduate from the University.
  • Work with the Athletics Compliance Office and the Center for Athletic Academic Services to determine initial eligibility and academic qualifications for admission.
  • Operate within the guidelines and requirements established by the University and the Department, handling required documents and administrative responsibilities thoroughly and timely.
  • Promote the execution of the Athletic Department’s strategic plan by adhering to its mission and core values.
  • Use university resources wisely, adhere to fiscal procedures, and operate within budgetary allotments unless prior approval is given.
  • Foster a positive environment that encourages sportsmanship and ensure public statements are supportive of the University and the Athletics Department.
  • Contribute to and reinforce an environment of academic expectations, achievement, and success to support academic progress and graduation.
  • Ensure programmatic policies and procedures produce a multi-year APR score at or above NCAA minimum requirements and a single year APR of 985 annually.
  • Direct all communication concerning student-athletes' academics through appropriate administrative and academic lines of communication.
  • Contribute to the total development of student-athletes in a manner consistent with the educational values of the University.
  • Provide support and assistance to service units and student-athletes regarding academic progress and graduation.
  • Operate in an atmosphere of compliance, integrity, and within the scope and intent of NCAA, conference, and university regulations.
  • Support the head coach by completing compliance-related activities in a complete and timely manner.
  • Establish and ensure communication and enforcement of rules and regulations concerning student-athletes.
  • Maintain awareness of and support the initiatives of the Athletics Department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
