About The Position

Assist the Head Coach in managing and directing all aspects of a Division I basketball program. Responsible for assisting with the usual and customary duties associated with the coaching of an athletic program; including but not limited to recruitment and development of student-athletes, practice planning, scouting and game planning, in-game coaching, day-to-day guidance of athletes, and overall program culture development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3-5 years of collegiate coaching experience incorporating recruiting, scouting, practice planning, and on-court, in-game coaching duties, preferably at the Division I level
  • Collegiate playing experience
  • Knowledgeable of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Highly motivated with outstanding work ethic

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing recruitment of academically qualified student-athletes
  • Maintaining academic success and progress of all recruited athletes in cooperation with Student-Athlete Academic Support Services
  • Preparing the team for practice and competitions
  • Overseeing and providing counseling, training, and conditioning for athletes
  • Ensuring NCAA, Conference, and University rules compliance with assistance from Compliance Services
  • Immediately reporting suspected or confirmed rules violations
  • Meeting regularly with the Head Coach to ensure clear understanding and dialogue of all program aspects
  • Maintaining accurate files and documentation on athletes
  • Recommending improvements to maintain program success
  • Budget planning and management
  • Recommending yearly changes in budget requests
  • Approving all program expenditures throughout the fiscal year
  • Assists in coordinating student-athlete development programs to ensure holistic development of the team
  • Assists in organizing and administering a quality summer camp program as requested
  • Managing assigned public relations responsibilities to radio, TV, media, University Alumni, and service groups
  • Producing a program that exhibits success and growth through spectator, faculty, and media interest
  • Organizing and conducting quality summer camps to promote the University and generate additional income
  • Receives annual written approval from the Director of Athletics and Recreation and the President prior to receiving any athletically related income and benefits from sources outside the institution, including contractual agreements and letters of appointment
  • Participates in professional development by attending divisional and departmental gatherings and seminars, attending regular staff meetings, and monitoring NCAA and Conference developments through workshops and seminars
  • Conducting business with courtesy and respect to promote the department and program positively
  • Promoting safe and secure working conditions by promoting proper utilization of equipment, materials, staff, and athletes
  • Notifying the supervisor immediately of any unsafe conditions
  • Performs such other duties, responsibilities, and activities as required by supervisor and as departmental/University needs indicate
