About The Position

The Department of Information Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant Vice President. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing executive leadership and management, establish best practice technical guidelines for the IT functional units. They will direct the development of the network/telecom infrastructure and operations strategy and provide executive participation in strategic partner relationship management. The role requires a commitment to growing and transforming the workforce culture, applying experience in developing new capabilities, while serving as an effective coach and developer of talent. The Assistant Vice President will provide overall leadership, direction, and project management to ensure cost-effective design, development, engineering, integration, implementation, testing, and maintenance of new infrastructure computing architecture systems in support of business objectives and requirements. This includes fostering a culture of continuous improvement to enhance quality, efficiency, and standards across IT infrastructure and services. The role involves developing engineering/technical strategy, associated KPI dashboards, and continuously improving methods, systems, and processes in a complex and rapidly changing environment to improve customer satisfaction and ensure continuous process improvement for SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. Ensuring the system is built for disaster situations at an acceptable cost, implementing and overseeing the change/release control management process to ensure the integrity of IT Service delivery and business continuity campus-wide are also key responsibilities. The Assistant Vice President will work closely with the Information Security Officer on data protection across the enterprise and oversee the integration strategy and direction, collaborating with BioMed on medical device integration with the infrastructure for streamlined, efficient patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in a hands-on technical support or developer role.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in managing technology operations.
  • Knowledge and experience of IT Service management in a Healthcare, Education and Research environment.
  • Excellent organizational, written, oral communication, analytical, team building, management and organizational skills.
  • Extensive expertise in computer hardware, software, systems, and applications across all portfolio areas.
  • Outstanding knowledge of cloud computing, cost optimization strategies, emerging technologies, and artificial intelligence.
  • Strong skills in relationship management and overseeing performance.
  • Thorough understanding of the organization's objectives and goals.
  • Excellent grasp of business operations and principles, including ITIL processes.
  • Remarkable interpersonal abilities focused on active listening and thoughtful questioning.
  • Capable of presenting complex ideas and technical issues in clear, user-friendly language to both non-technical staff and senior leaders.
  • Skilled at prioritizing and executing tasks effectively in high-pressure settings.
  • Able to collaborate deeply with IT professionals and provide concise, informative updates to management.
  • Well-versed in technologies commonly used and supported within the healthcare and higher education sectors.
