About The Position

The On-Site Energy Manager (OsEM) is part of the Asset Management’s Energy Team, responsible for developing and executing NYCEDC’s portfolio-wide energy strategy. This role will focus on energy management and decarbonization at the Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT), a large industrial campus. The OsEM will work on-site to identify, analyze, and implement improvements in energy, water, and processes, with a focus on smart systems, digital optimization, and strategic planning. The position requires a blend of technical energy analysis and operational strategy to develop projects that reduce energy use, lower peak demand, improve resiliency, and ensure compliance with New York City and State decarbonization mandates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, data science, sustainability, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in facility energy management, industrial energy systems, or building performance.
  • Demonstrated success implementing energy conservation measures and managing utility data for large, complex facilities.
  • Proven experience with building automation systems, metering, and energy-data platforms.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage tenants and present data-driven findings to diverse audiences.
  • Proficient in data analysis and quantitative methods; experience with coding and dashboarding tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • New York City residence is required within 180 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or Certified Energy Auditor (CEA).
  • Working knowledge of Con Edison tariffs, NYSERDA incentive programs, and Local Laws 84/87/97 compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or managing distributed energy projects (solar, BESS, EV charging).
  • Proficient in energy benchmarking and modeling tools (Energy Star Portfolio Manager, eQuest, EnergyPlus, TRACE, IES, HAP) and Measurement & Verification protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive data-driven energy management plan for BAT with measurable targets for energy savings, demand reduction, and emissions mitigation.
  • Benchmark building performance, identify trends, and predict savings opportunities through data visualization.
  • Track and report progress toward annual savings goals, targeting a minimum 1% reduction in annual energy use.
  • Identify and deliver advanced energy projects, including demand-response enablement, networked lighting, and digital-twin performance monitoring.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders like NYSERDA, utilities, and consultants on project implementation and incentive opportunities.
  • Support the integration of distributed energy resources such as solar PV, battery energy storage, electric vehicle charging, and thermal energy network infrastructure.
  • Develop dashboards and performance reports for building operators and tenants.
  • Train staff on data-driven energy optimization and champion tenant engagement programs for behavioral efficiency.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of all OsEM activities, energy analyses, and implemented measures per NYSERDA requirements.
  • Provide quarterly and annual reports to NYCEDC and NYSERDA summarizing activities, cost savings, and emissions reductions.
