About The Position

Responsible for executing complex underwriting activities across assigned lines of business with high autonomy and judgment. Applies advanced knowledge to assess risk, develop pricing strategies, and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. Serves as a technical expert and may mentor junior underwriters while managing sophisticated accounts or portfolios.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of professional underwriting experience in commercial or specialty lines.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex accounts and applying advanced underwriting judgment.
  • Advanced analytical and risk assessment skills.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management capabilities.
  • Proficiency in underwriting systems and rating tools.
  • Ability to interpret financial statements and exposure data for decision-making.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in complex scenarios.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in portfolio analysis and strategic account management is preferred.
  • Completion of industry designations such as CPCU, AU, or equivalent is highly preferred.
  • State-specific insurance licenses may be required depending on jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and analyze complex submissions to determine risk acceptance and pricing strategy.
  • Develop and negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing for high-value accounts in accordance with guidelines.
  • Ensure adherence to underwriting authority and compliance with regulatory and company standards.
  • Collaborate with brokers, agents, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and negotiate solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced underwriters.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and recommend corrective actions for profitability and growth.
  • Contribute to process improvements and best practice development within underwriting discipline.
  • Maintain knowledge of market trends and competitor products to ensure competitive positioning.
