Assistant Veterinary Technician - Part-Time
About The Position
The Assistant Veterinary Technician is responsible for providing a range of services, including medical, for animals in the care of the Ottawa Humane Society. This role involves monitoring animal health and well-being, providing medical and general animal assessment services, and administering prescribed treatments and other medical interventions. The position also includes maintaining animal holding areas, facilities, and equipment, and assisting veterinary technicians and veterinarians. Additionally, the Assistant Veterinary Technician will support clients, coworkers, volunteers, students, and work placements, providing orientation and training as needed. A thorough understanding of pertinent legislation, regulations, guidelines, OHS policies, procedures, collective agreement, and good animal care practices is required. The role also involves producing and maintaining accurate reports, records, and files, and participating in supervision, evaluation, training, and meetings. The Assistant Veterinary Technician will contribute to the identification and evaluation of OHS program goals and objectives, participate in professional development opportunities, and represent the OHS in a professional manner, including participation in public relations and promotional activities.
Requirements
- Veterinary Assistant Certificate, a minimum of one year relevant clinical experience, or a combination thereof
- Professional working proficiency in spoken and written English is required
Responsibilities
- Monitor animal health and well-being

- Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians as required
- Assist and support clients as required

- Be thoroughly familiar with pertinent legislation, regulations, guidelines, OHS policies, procedures, collective agreement, and good animal care practices
- Produce and maintain accurate reports, records, and files
- Participate in supervision, evaluation, training and other meetings as required

- Participate in professional development opportunities
- Represent the OHS in a professional manner
