About The Position

The Bear Creek School is seeking an Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach to join their athletics team. The basketball season begins in November, with an opportunity to assist with a basketball camp in June. The Varsity Assistant Coach will work alongside and under the Athletics Director to organize, coordinate, and promote a comprehensive athletic program that advances the mission of The Bear Creek School. This role offers the chance to join an accomplished athletic program, with the girls' basketball team having recently participated in the WIAA 1A State Tournament. Bear Creek is described as a vibrant community of faculty and staff committed to its mission, providing opportunities for students and adults to learn, play, and serve together in an inclusive, caring environment. The school utilizes a Christian classical education framework for teaching and inspiring students. The Assistant Coach will support the mission of Bear Creek by joining the athletics team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Some coaching experience preferred, but not required
  • Compliance with WIAA and Bear Creek requirements prior to beginning of sports season
  • Holds CPR/AED/First Aid certification (with epinephrine autoinjector supplement) or obtain certification within 90 days of employment start date
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer (sponsorship is not available for this position)
  • Positively support the school’s policies and practices and work collaboratively in a professional organization

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Athletics Director to create a comprehensive approach to all program elements at Bear Creek in grades K - 12
  • Maintain compliance with the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA), Emerald Sound Conference, and The Bear Creek School
  • Plan and organize all practice sessions in advance
  • Provide instruction and training in the fundamentals of the sport/activity
  • Supervise the team during all team activities including travel
  • Effectively communicate with Athletics Department, players, parents, colleagues, and league members
  • Maintain, inventory, and submit requests for any facility or equipment needs
  • Represent the school and its community in a professional manner
  • Promote the athletics program within the school and community
  • Actively teach and promote sportsmanship, fair play, and character development in the program and ensure that all team members and spectators uphold a high standard of conduct at all times
