About The Position

Durham Academy is accepting applications for a part-time varsity assistant girls basketball coach. The season runs from late October through mid-February. Candidates should expect a regular weekday commitment of 90-minute practices with two to three games per week. This position reports to both the Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach and the Director of Athletics.

Requirements

Experience playing or coaching basketball at the interscholastic or collegiate level
A commitment to providing a safe, healthy, joyful environment for practice and play
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
An ability and eagerness to maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with all members of the school community (student-athletes, families, alumni, teachers, administrators and fellow coaches)
The ability to lead student-athletes with competitive energy and formative care
Culturally competent and believe in the central importance of diversity and equity in the life of a school community
Can work independently with minimal supervision and routinely prioritize multiple tasks
Have the ability to work in complex environments with a high degree of organizational effectiveness and attention to detail
Are personable, collaborative and able to develop rapport quickly with a variety of individuals
Use technology thoughtfully and creatively
Innovate and experiment to find novel and efficient ways to complete tasks and solve problems

Responsibilities

Assist with tryouts and team selection in consultation with the V Head Coach and the Varsity coaching staff
Help plan and execute effective practices
Assist Head Coach with game strategy
Drive a minibus to all road games
Collaborate with all coaches in the girls basketball program and DA Athletics trainers, staff, administration and faculty
