About The Position

Join our team as a Assistant Varsity Football Coach! Home to more than 1,600 students, the Pelham School District is composed of Pelham Elementary School serving preschool through grade 5, Pelham Memorial School serving students in grades 6 through 8, and Pelham High School serving students in grades 9 through 12. The function of a coach is to properly educate students through participation in interscholastic competition. The interscholastic program is designed to enhance academic achievement and should never interfere with opportunities for academic success.

Requirements

  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • NFHS Certification
  • Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of NHIAA rules
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct, lead and supervise student athletes
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prior high school coaching experience and/or college playing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the varsity head coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Assess player’s skills, monitor players during competition and practice, and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of the students.
  • Work within the basic framework and philosophy of the head coach and assists with determining game strategy.
  • Assist the head Coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition.
  • Adhere to injury procedures established by the Merrimack Athletic Department.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Model professional behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Have the total athletic and school program at interest.
  • Be supportive of student participation in other school activities.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the Coaches Handbook and school board policies, particularly those governing student nondiscrimination, anti-harassment, bullying, mandatory reporting, student record confidentiality, and other pertinent school board policies.
  • Perform other such duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and that may be requested by the varsity head coach.

Benefits

  • This is a seasonal, part-time poisition paid by a stipend. Stipends are paid twice per season-mid-way and at the conclusion of the season. This role does not qualify for benefits.
