About The Position

Union Labor Life Insurance Company is actively recruiting an Assistant Underwriter for our Silver Spring, MD office. This role involves compiling census data, calculating manual rates, and analyzing claims experience to support rating recommendations by the primary underwriter. The Assistant Underwriter will also consult with the primary underwriter on calculations and analysis needs, and assist in preparing new business and renewal proposals and other correspondence. Other job-related duties may be assigned occasionally.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent training and/or experience.
Over two years of office experience required.
Must pass Company underwriting math test.
Demonstrated proficiency in and demonstrated knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and email applications required.
Demonstrated organizational analysis, data comparison, detail-oriented and follow-up skills required.
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills required.

Nice To Haves

knowledge of underwriting principles is preferred.

Responsibilities

Compile census data, calculate manual rates and analyze claims experience in preparation for rating recommendations by primary underwriter.
