About The Position

We are seeking an in-house, dedicated and motivated Assistant District Attorney to join our team and manage the Lincoln County Magistrate Court. This position is ideal for an attorney who thrives in a fast-paced courtroom environment and is eager to gain substantial prosecutorial and trial experience. You will handle all aspects of criminal prosecution within the Magistrate Court, including case review, charging decisions, plea negotiations, motion practice, and regular court appearances. This position provides the opportunity to participate in jury trials frequently, allowing for the development of strong trial and courtroom advocacy skills.

Requirements

  • J.D. degree
  • Current license to practice law in New Mexico
  • Basic knowledge and skills in the areas of criminal prosecution, rules of evidence and rules of criminal procedure
  • Public relations skills
  • Organization skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to draft legal documents
  • Ability to work effectively with other criminal justice agencies
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to research and analyze information and situations

Nice To Haves

  • Legal experience totaling up to at least one (1) year.

Responsibilities

  • Handle all aspects of criminal prosecution within the Magistrate Court, including case review, charging decisions, plea negotiations, motion practice, and regular court appearances.
  • Participate in jury trials frequently.
  • Work independently and make decisions within guidelines which include decisions to dismiss, proceed to trial or negotiate plea agreements.
  • Seek guidance from assigned supervisor and/or higher-level attorneys.
  • Go to crime scenes.
