About The Position

The Yakima-Tieton Irrigation District is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Assistant Treasurer/Financial Accountant to join our front office team. This important role is responsible for performing complex, professional-level accounting activities including payroll, accounts payable, investment monitoring, grant monitoring, budget facilitation, and ensures compliance with state auditor regulations. The position also supports routine office functions such as answering phones, processing water payments, and general customer service.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in accounting or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience
  • Washington State Driver’s License
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office and accounting ERP systems.
  • understanding of GAAP, governmental and fund accounting, and financial principles
  • ability to interpret laws, regulations, and policies
  • skilled in financial analysis, report preparation, and attention to detail
  • excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • proficiency with computers, accounting software, and standard office equipment
  • reporting fixed assets
  • monitoring contracts and agreements, investments and cash flow

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of bi-monthly payroll and process payroll-related payments and reports.
  • Review and validate accounting transactions including irrigation assessments and general ledger entries.
  • Process accounts payable payments and receivable, including invoices and monthly journal entries.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll reports; issue W-2 forma and 1099’s.
  • Record/report water assessments, payments and bank deposits.
  • Compile financial reports for Board budget meetings and year-end reporting.
  • Facilitate the external audit between the district and WA state Auditor’s Office.
  • Monitor and track local and federal grants ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Monitor and report investments.
  • Assist in annual budget preparation with the District Manager/Treasurer.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and regulations.
  • Provide backup support to the Administrative Assistant for processing water assessments and related tasks.
  • This position will perform other duties as assigned.
