About The Position

Reporting to the Transportation Supervisor Fleet, the Assistant Transportation Supervisor Fleet assists in the management of all aspects of Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education (AVRCE) fleet maintenance, making sure the vehicles are maintained in accordance with Provincial Regulations, Federal Regulations and AVRCE Policies as well as supervising fleet maintenance staff.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma.
  • 3-5 Years’ experience in fleet management and/or maintenance preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of fleet management software, understanding of maintenance planning, scheduling, practices, scheduling tools and vehicle regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and make independent and timely decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use software applications such as MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • The successful applicant will be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract, Criminal Record Check and a completed Child Abuse Registry.

Nice To Haves

  • A community college diploma in Business Administration or similar program, or trade certificate in automotive, bus and transport, or heavy equipment repair would be considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of and experience with BusPlanner® Fleet and Zonar®would be an asset.
  • Class 2B license with air brake endorsement would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to supervise maintenance staff in the bus garage including mechanics, inventory clerks, and general labourers in the daily maintenance of buses, vans and support vehicles.
  • Ability to prioritize and schedule maintenance work on AVRCE fleet.
  • Manage computer maintenance systems and ensure all maintenance paperwork is completed, filed properly and compliant.
  • Liaising with Transportation Supervisors to ensure the proper number of school buses/vans needed to support scheduled runs and routes are available and compliant.
  • Liaising with the Transportation Supervisor Fleet and Coordinator of Transportation, in determining maintenance or repair strategies and to ensure all maintenance and repair processes are compliant as approved by the bus/van manufacture or third-party engineer.
  • Monitoring pre-trip bus inspection forms to ensure defects are promptly reported, repaired, and recorded.
  • Monitor job performance and complete staff performance appraisal. Keep a check on staff licensing requirements to ensure compliance with Provincial law and AVRCE Policy.
  • Assist in the selection, interview, and training of all maintenance staff.
  • Ensuring all staff follow safety processes and protocols and ensuring the garages are a safe working environment.
  • Assist in financial management of fleet maintenance including ensuring compliance with policies and processes for procurement of parts and services.
