The Assistant Transportation Manager supports the Transportation Manager in overseeing daily transportation operations and supervising company drivers. This role helps ensure safe, efficient, and compliant fleet operations by coordinating driver schedules, managing vehicle maintenance, monitoring DOT compliance, and serving as a backup for transportation leadership. The position also provides support for routing, fleet management, and driver performance while promoting excellent customer service and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
  • Must maintain a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate and meet DOT qualification requirements.
  • Must maintain an acceptable driving record in accordance with company policy.
  • Proficient with computer software and transportation management systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous transportation, fleet, logistics, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with DF InTime, Lytx, and Motive is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with drivers and other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising and supporting company drivers.
  • Serve as backup to the Transportation Manager, routing functions, and Fleet Support Coordinator.
  • Coordinate and manage daily driver routing and scheduling.
  • Review and update driver schedules as needed.
  • Coordinate drivers with assigned tractors and trailers.
  • Schedule and coordinate vehicle repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Handle insurance claims and accident documentation.
  • Maintain tractors and trailers to ensure operational readiness.
  • Schedule and maintain required DOT inspections and appointments.
  • Maintain accurate DOT driver qualification files and records.
  • Keep Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) current.
  • Monitor and review events through Lytx and the Motive Fleet App.
  • Maintain monthly mileage reporting.
  • Conduct annual driver performance reviews.
  • Answer incoming transportation-related calls during department operating hours.
  • Inspect vehicles for cleanliness and overall condition.
  • Serve as a backup route driver when necessary.
  • Accurately utilize DF InTime software.
  • Display regular and predictable attendance.
  • Work overtime when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
