About The Position

The Town of Leesburg is seeking a creative problem solver and proactive self-starter to join the Town Attorney’s Office as an Assistant Town Attorney. This role involves working with the Town Attorney, Deputy Town Attorney, and other staff to provide comprehensive legal services to the Town. The primary focus will be on labor relations and employment matters, including collective bargaining, employee discipline, investigations, hearings, and arbitrations. The position will also handle other civil legal matters affecting the Town and will advise the Town Manager, Department Directors, and Town staff in assigned legal areas. Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Good standing with the Virginia State Bar.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience practicing law in one or more of the following areas: Labor or employment law; Conducting hearings or arbitrations; Negotiation and drafting of complex legal agreements.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) or more years practicing law.
  • Local government law experience.
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal services for the Town of Leesburg as part of the Town Attorney’s Office.
  • Focus on labor relations and employment matters, including collective bargaining, employee discipline, related investigations, hearings, and arbitrations.
  • Handle other civil legal matters that affect the Town.
  • Advise the Town Manager, Department Directors, and Town staff in assigned areas of the law.
