About The Position

The Department of Romance Languages seeks a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor of Spanish Language and Culture, to teach undergraduate language and culture classes at the lower- and upper-division levels, with primary assignment in the beginning and intermediate levels. Our multi-sectioned programs require creative teachers who work well in a collaborative environment with both graduate employees and faculty (both Teaching and Research Professors). A full course load for this position is 9 courses per year (three per quarter).

Requirements

  • MA in Spanish, applied linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, language pedagogy, or a related field before the start date.
  • Instructional experience at the college-level with beginning and intermediate programs in Spanish.
  • Professional-level language proficiency in both Spanish and English.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds and contribute to institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with curriculum development, program articulation, proficiency assessment, placement testing, service learning, or other areas of program development
  • Experience supervising/coordinating multi-sectioned language programs
  • Experience teaching Spanish as a Heritage Language
  • Experience with recruitment and advising
  • Experience with promoting academic programs
