About The Position

New York Institute of Technology's Department of Physics invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor position at NYIT’s New York City Campus. As our student body and institution evolve, we seek a forward-thinking educator who will teach creatively and grow alongside our department. The initial appointment will be for two years, with subsequent reappointments (subject to approval by the university) for two consecutive three-year contracts, followed by renewable five-year contracts with the possibility of promotion to Associate Teaching Professor and Teaching Professor. The teaching load for the position is 21 credit hours per year.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated success in undergraduate teaching and a commitment to educating students from different backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience creating and teaching advanced undergraduate laboratory courses.
  • Experience and future plans for meaningfully involving undergraduate students in physics research.

Responsibilities

  • Teach engaging, interactive physics courses for majors, minors, and non-majors.
  • Modernize and develop course materials in existing courses.
  • Create new courses and curricula tailored to changing student needs.
  • Contribute to the NYIT community through service activities such as student academic advising and mentoring, recruitment initiatives, and department- college- and school-wide committees.
