About The Position

The College of Social Sciences and Humanities and its ten tenure units are the home of the Experiential Liberal Arts. The Department of World Languages and Cultures seeks to fill a non-tenure-track job opening for an Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Full Teaching Professor of Spanish. This is an academic year teaching faculty position with opportunities for promotion through an established track from Assistant Teaching Professor to Associate Teaching Professor to Full Teaching Professor. Reappointment letters are issued prior to July 1 of the applicable year. This is a full time, benefits-eligible position with an expected start date of August 17, 2026. The position will be on Northeastern’s Boston campus. This position will support the University's commitment to innovation in teaching as well as the Department of World Languages and Cultures' vision of developing students' intercultural communicative competence.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Spanish applied linguistics, pedagogy, literature, cultural studies, or a related field in hand by the employment start date.
  • Ability to teach Spanish language and culture courses at all levels of the curriculum.
  • Ability to teach Spanish for Heritage Speakers, Spanish for Healthcare, Latin American Film, or Portuguese (or another language).
  • Experience teaching Spanish in in-person and online (asynchronous) formats.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish.
  • Applicants should submit a cover letter that addresses their interest in and qualifications for the position, a curriculum vitae, a teaching statement, evidence of teaching effectiveness (including student evaluations), sample syllabi, and the names and contact information for at least three individuals who can provide a letter of recommendation.

Responsibilities

  • Duties include a teaching load of six courses for the academic year (three courses each semester), including Spanish language and culture courses, and ongoing curricular and pedagogical innovation.
  • Professional development and service are also expected.
