About The Position

Wiley University invites applications for a full-time faculty position supporting our undergraduate Spanish language programs. We seek a dedicated scholar-educator passionate about delivering high-quality instruction in Spanish language, literature, and culture while fostering students' communicative proficiency and intercultural competence. Requirements

  • Master's degree in Spanish, Hispanic Linguistics, Hispanic Literature, or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish with excellent command of both oral and written communication
  • Demonstrated ability or strong potential to deliver effective, student-centered instruction across multiple proficiency levels
  • Strong commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment that values linguistic and cultural diversity
  • Willingness to engage collaboratively in curriculum review and departmental initiatives

Nice To Haves

  • Terminal degree (Ph.D.) in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, Applied Linguistics, or related discipline
  • Previous college or university teaching experience, particularly at the undergraduate level
  • Experience with proficiency-based instruction, task-based learning, and technology-enhanced language teaching
  • Study, work, or extended residence experience in Spanish-speaking countries
  • Record of scholarly activity, research engagement, or relevant professional experience
  • Ability to teach courses in Hispanic literature, culture, translation, or linguistics
  • Willingness to contribute to study abroad programs or cultural outreach activities

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Spanish, which may include Elementary Spanish I & II, Intermediate Spanish I & II, Advanced Spanish Conversation and Composition, Spanish for the Professions, and upper-level courses in Hispanic literature, culture, or linguistics aligned with the candidate's area of specialization
  • Develop students' proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through communicative, student-centered approaches
  • Foster cultural awareness and appreciation of the diverse Spanish-speaking world
  • Provide academic mentoring and professional guidance to support student language development and intercultural competence
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, assessment practices aligned with ACTFL proficiency guidelines, and continuous program improvement
  • Actively participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including support for cultural programming and study abroad initiatives
  • Engage in ongoing scholarship and professional development to maintain disciplinary currency and pedagogical effectiveness
  • Report to the Department Chair or designated administrator and contribute to departmental goals
