As an Assistant Teacher at the Children's Center in Coeur d'Alene, you'll play an important role in creating meaningful early learning experiences while building positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.

Requirements

  • Level I: A CDA (Child Development Associate) credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential, are enrolled in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree or, are enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time of hire.
  • Level II: An Associate in Early Childhood Education, or Child Development OR an Associate degree in any other field of study AND: A major in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
  • Experience as a staff or volunteer in a preschool classroom.
  • Register with Idaho STARS and participate in the professional development system.
  • Maintain current Infant/child & Adult CPR and First Aid.
  • Pass an enhanced background check including fingerprinting, as required by Head Start Program Performance Standards and Child Care Licensing requirements, prior to first day of work.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive approach to Early Childhood Development programs, health, and social services.
  • Working knowledge of commonly used computer software programs including data collection systems.
  • Demonstrate professional ethics and confidentiality.
  • Flexibility, teamwork, professionalism, and a genuine passion for supporting children and families are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Classroom Teacher to plan and implement engaging learning experiences and curriculum.
  • Help maintain a safe, healthy, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Ensure active supervision of children throughout the day.
  • Support children's developmental needs.
  • Assist with screenings, assessments, observations, goal setting, and documentation of progress.
  • Help foster strong connections between children, families, and the Head Start program.
  • Support disability services.
  • Collaborate with center staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Participate in professional development and program initiatives.
  • Assume classroom leadership responsibilities when the Classroom Teacher is absent.
