About The Position

Oak Hill School sets the standard in empowering students to learn through meaningful, functional, and innovative educational experiences that build self-advocacy and independence and reinforce the dignity of students using comprehensive transdisciplinary support. As an Assistant Teacher, you'll work alongside Special Education Teachers and a multidisciplinary team to support students with diverse learning and developmental needs. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license for at least two and a half to three years
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to follow instructional plans and directions.
  • Compassion, patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to safely assist students with mobility and personal care needs.

Nice To Haves

  • College coursework in Education or a related field.
  • Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience in a classroom or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of student development and behavioral support strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Support students in achieving academic, social, and behavioral goals outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Work one-on-one and in small groups to reinforce classroom instruction.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Encourage student independence while implementing individualized behavior support plans.
  • Assist with classroom observation and documentation of student progress.
  • Provide personal care support, including toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, transferring, and other daily living activities as needed.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.
  • Assist students during transportation and school transitions when necessary.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, families, and other educational professionals to promote student success.
  • Participate in ongoing training and maintain required certifications, including V-Endorsement.
  • Apply the ARC principles (Attachment, Self-Regulation, and Competency).
