Summary The Children's Early Care and Education Center is a STAR-4 early childhood education center on the campus of Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest serving children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. The assistant teacher role helps implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and ensure the daily care and safety of children enrolled in the center.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or 2 years experience related to the care and development of children
  • First Aid Certificate - American Heart Association Upon Hire
  • BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association Upon Hire
  • Lift and carry 25 lbs.
  • frequent sitting/standing
  • frequent keyboard use
  • patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.

Nice To Haves

  • Specialized Diploma CDA or SAPC or Specialized Diploma
  • 9 or more Early Childhood Education credits or Associate’s Degree including 15 college credits in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education

Responsibilities

  • Helps to implement developmentally appropriate curriculum to promote the physical and cognitive growth of children.
  • Supports the social, emotional development, cognitive development, and cultural values of the children.
  • Helps to maintain a clean, safe, and engaging classroom environment, ensuring the daily care of children by following all policies and regulations.
  • Assists in the assessment of each child's progress and creates goals and objectives based on their developmental progress.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the children and family's social, linguistic, and cultural diversity in their daily lives and maintains good communication with parents and co-teachers.
  • Positively interacts with, initiates and encourages children in a variety of ways (creative expression, mealtime, rest, and active movement) throughout the day to inspire and engage
  • Assists children to learn socially appropriate behavior through positive guidance consistent with the child's level of development.
  • Promotes safe and healthy habits daily for the children measured daily by observation.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings and supports a cooperative atmosphere in the classroom and throughout the center.
  • Provides input for the preparation of the lesson plan and helps prepare materials relating to the learning activities.
