About The Position

The Assistant Teacher (Early Childhood Teacher I) interacts with, initiates, encourages, and supervises children during daily activities. The role supports classroom teachers and aides, helps maintain a cooperative and supportive classroom, and contributes to a safe, stimulating, developmentally appropriate environment. The Assistant Teacher assists with record keeping, activity planning, and addressing concerns involving children and parents. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience; no prior experience is required. Infant and Child CPR and First Aid certification are required, or the ability to obtain certification within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Interact with, initiate, encourage, and supervise children in daily activities.
• Assist in orienting, supervising, and working collaboratively with classroom teacher aides.
• Develop a cooperative and supportive attitude within the room.
• Train classroom assistants to maintain consistent management.
• Maintain a safe, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment by changing play areas bi-monthly, cleaning toys and equipment weekly, and checking for hazards daily.
• Assist with record keeping, including observations regarding children’s health, behavior, and development.
• Assist in planning activities for the assigned group and offer suggestions and information about the children.
• Assist in addressing concerns or solving problems with children and parents.
