About The Position
The Assistant Educator for La Jornada supports teaching staff and children’s learning and development in a positive, nurturing environment. The role provides feedback to the Lead Educator about children’s progress and discusses important issues concerning the children regularly. The Assistant Educator helps develop and deliver lessons, monitors academic progress in collaboration with the educator, and works with individual children to promote learning and development. The position is expected to perform all work consistently with the National Youth Advocate Program’s mission, values, and philosophies.
Requirements
- Associate degree in education and/or early childhood education.
- At least 2 years of experience as a Teacher Assistant or Paraprofessional working with minority children in a classroom environment.
- Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, smartphones and tablets, printers, fax machines, and photocopiers, and word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish; fluency in Spanish is required.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Valid state driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and a good driving record.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Compassionate attitude and strong understanding of child development.
- Nurturing teaching approach.
Nice To Haves
- Valid ECE certification preferred.
Responsibilities
- Perform all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Program’s mission, values, and philosophies.
- Assist in developing lesson plans based on state requirements and each child’s specific needs.
- Collaborate with the educator to monitor each child’s academic progress.
- Collaborate with the educator to deliver daily lesson plans and understand classroom operations in the teacher’s absence.
- Work with individual children in the classroom to promote their learning and development.
- Provide feedback to the Lead Educator about children’s progress and discuss important issues concerning the children regularly.
