About The Position

The Assistant Teacher will support the Mentor and Classroom Teachers in implementing the Reggio Emilia approach within the Early Childhood Center. This role involves assisting with daily routines, maintaining a safe and clean environment, engaging with children, and collaborating with colleagues and parents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Studies, Education, or related field
  • 1 year of experience working with young children
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Infant and Child CPR Certified
  • Ability to know and implement policies and procedures.
  • Ability to be familiar with parent handbook.
  • Ability to be familiar with the Reggio Emilia approach.
  • Ability to know and assist in execution of classroom routines.
  • Ability to actively maintain outdoor play areas.
  • Ability to maintain global room awareness.
  • Ability to read daily journals and classroom communication log.
  • Ability to perform daily housekeeping duties.
  • Ability to wipe down/sanitize equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Know and implement policies and procedures according to staff handbook.
  • Be familiar with the Reggio Emilia approach and communicate its implementation in individual classrooms.
  • Know and assist in execution of classroom routines, including mealtimes, free play, transitions, large and small group times, and outside play.
  • Actively maintain the outdoor play areas; check for safety, rake mulch to cover fall zones, supervise and engage in children’s play.
  • Maintain a global room awareness to best support the Mentor and Classroom Teachers.
  • Engage with children unless supporting a transition.
  • Read daily journals and classroom communication log to be knowledgeable of classroom activities.
  • Perform daily housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, sanitized, safe preschool environment.
  • Wipe down/sanitize equipment to meet health department/accreditation standards.
  • Positively engage with parents during drop off and pick up times (behavioral discussions are handled by Mentor or Classroom Teacher).
  • Plan activities and provocations with the guidance of the Mentor Teacher.
  • Scaffold and challenge children as they explore and learn.
  • Help lead circle times/class meetings for children if necessary.
  • Implement a guidance policy that incorporates positive redirection and sensitivity to individual children’s needs.
  • Meet with Mentor Teacher weekly to discuss concerns and clarify individual needs of children and/or behavior plans.
