About The Position

Family Health Centers at NYU Langone is seeking an Assistant Teacher to join their team. This role involves assisting the Head Teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate lessons, creating a stimulating environment, encouraging parent involvement, setting individual goals, recording observations, maintaining a clean classroom, and assisting with toileting and other classroom duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year relevant experience
  • Warm, caring and outgoing personality
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Able to create and maintain positive relationships with children, parents and staff
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Head Teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate lessons.
  • Work with a team to provide a stimulating environment and activities.
  • Encourage parent involvement.
  • Set individual goals and record anecdotal observations for each child.
  • Keep the room clean.
  • Help with toileting.
  • Perform other various classroom duties.
  • Inspect children for signs of illness or injury upon arrival.
  • Communicate directly with supervisor and readily accept and respond to supervisory inputs.
  • Implement suggestions and be open to constructive criticism.
  • Seek and ask for help if needed, and be willing to help others.
  • Approach criticism with a learning attitude.

  • Inspect fire exits and extinguishers regularly.
  • File incident or accident reports accordingly and as needed.
  • Notify parents and director when children are sick or get hurt.
  • Use bleach solutions to clean toys and surfaces as required.
  • Use the Germ Box effectively.
  • Follow the diaper changing / potty procedures for children accordingly and as needed.
  • Follow the When to Wash Hand policies as posted in the classroom.
  • Follow the hand washing procedures accordingly.
  • Inspect outdoor and indoor play areas prior to play.
