About The Position

The Part-Time Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, caring, and developmentally appropriate environment for children. This position assists with classroom activities, supervision, daily routines, and maintaining compliance with Tennessee DHS licensing standards and center policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or currently enrolled in high school (if permitted by DHS regulations and center policy).
  • Experience working with children preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Ability to pass required background checks and screenings.
  • Ability to work well with children and adults.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and center procedures.
  • Dependability and punctuality.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Teacher with daily classroom activities and routines.
  • Support implementation of lessons, learning activities, and transitions.
  • Supervise and engage with children during indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.
  • Assist children with meals, toileting, handwashing, and other daily needs.
  • Follow all Tennessee DHS licensing regulations and center policies.
  • Maintain active supervision of children at all times.
  • Assist in maintaining proper classroom ratios.
  • Follow health, sanitation, and safety procedures.
  • Report injuries, incidents, or concerns to the Lead Teacher or administration immediately.
  • Participate in emergency drills and safety procedures.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom staff and administration.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Participate in required trainings and staff meetings as assigned.
  • Accept guidance and direction from Lead Teachers and administration.
  • Greet families and children in a warm and professional manner.
  • Communicate respectfully with parents while referring major concerns to the Lead Teacher or administration.
