About The Position

The Assistant Teacher II will support special educators and therapists in a full-day rehabilitation setting, serving a varied population of students. The role focuses on supporting patients' educational needs during their rehabilitation stay, which may include instruction of work from school, implementation of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) if applicable, and support of the rehabilitation treatment plan. The incumbent will assist in adapting instruction to meet individual academic, medical, developmental, and technological needs, and will manage the classroom, including arrival, meal, and dismissal times, greeting families, and orienting students to their schedules. The role requires consistent implementation of behavioral plans and the ability to independently fulfill teacher duties and responsibilities under the direction of the Educational Transition Therapist as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum one year of experience in a classroom setting required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with children with developmental disabilities is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement instruction in accordance with each student's IEP, rehabilitation, and treatment plan, using effective strategies for academic and behavioral success, in cooperation with the supervising teacher.
  • Complete instructional-related duties as assigned by supervising teachers and administrators.
  • Implement behavioral protocols/assignments for students during instructional and non-instructional times.
  • Participate in and contribute to in-service training and staff meetings professionally and collegially.
  • Provide support and leadership for curricular and extra-curricular activities that promote a positive Fairmount Rehabilitation Program experience.
  • Assist with the implementation of technology in instructional design and delivery according to the supervising teacher’s directions.
  • Identify changes in the physical, health, or emotional status of students and report these changes to the nurse.
  • Perform direct-care patient duties including assisting with arrival and dismissal, hygiene/dressing needs, daily schedule and communication needs, and facilitating meals.
  • Assist with programmatic functions and clerical duties that support the program, such as arranging transportation for patients, organizing therapeutic outings, and setting up, maintaining, and cleaning patient treatment areas.
  • Provide independent instruction, supervision, and classroom management in the absence of the supervising teacher.
  • Provide coverage for Rehabilitation Aide/Tech duties as needed.
