This position is an unclassified employee appointed by the Superintendent pursuant to §2152.42(B) of the Ohio Revised Code. The Assistant Supervisor is responsible for managing, directing, and controlling the behavior of residents in compliance with work rules and guidelines. This role involves ensuring compliance with all Portage County Juvenile Detention Center (PCJDC) policies and procedures to promote a safe, secure, and humane environment for residents and staff. The Assistant Supervisor provides support to the Shift Supervisor in managing and supervising the daily operations of the Detention Center, ensuring the best possible care, welfare, and security of PCJDC residents. This is achieved by utilizing behavior management techniques that promote prosocial behavior and discourage violation of facility rules. The Assistant Supervisor monitors, supervises, plans, organizes, and directs the behavior and activities of residents to ensure the safety of residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors. They maintain a safe and secure environment by diffusing disruptive/destructive behaviors through crisis intervention and verbal counseling, and when necessary, using physical intervention techniques. The role requires coherent and effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to complete concise, accurate, and timely written and/or electronic logs and reports.
