This position is an exciting opportunity to join the Occupational Therapy department as an Assistant Supervisor. The successful candidate will coordinate patient care, training programs, and research endeavors for a specific specialty area within Occupational Therapy and assist in overseeing daily unit operations.

Requirements

  • NYS Occupational Therapy license with valid, current registration.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Five (5) years as a licensed Occupational Therapist with progressive responsibilities and development in a specific clinical area.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Implements an occupational therapy plan designed to achieve goals established in patient-clinician partnership for each patient assigned independently, selecting appropriate treatment approaches, skillfully applying treatment techniques, observing patient responses, and modifying the program as needed.
  • Establishes appropriate goals for the treatment of every patient, individualizing the treatment program.
  • Monitors treatment rendered by Staff Occupational Therapists and students.
  • Demonstrates continued proficiency in skills required to treat the assigned patient population.
  • Demonstrates a leadership role in the development of specialized clinical expertise, communication, and teamwork.
  • Initiates and assists in the development of all related educational programs.
  • Instructs students from occupational therapy and COTA programs through assignments, lectures, and demonstrations.
  • Works with representatives of colleges and universities to recruit students from occupational therapy and COTA programs.
  • Develops and assists in quality assurance projects, monitoring and reporting pertaining to occupational therapy practice.
  • Reviews and assists in developing policies and procedures pertaining to clinical practice.
  • Coordinates Occupational Therapy patient care for in- and out-patients in areas of specialized clinical expertise and provides education and training to staff.
  • Develops materials to enhance the quality and scope of patient care (e.g., pamphlets, video tapes, home programs) in collaboration with the team.
  • Develops resource material for staff members (e.g., suggests journals, accesses research articles).
  • Assists in the coordination of the student program and other clinical education programs with senior staff and management.
  • Works with staff and management on Performance Improvement and clinical research projects.
  • Identifies new equipment to facilitate programmatic growth and development, and assists with equipment and unit maintenance.
  • Assists in Case Management responsibilities related to the Occupational Therapy plan of care.
  • Practices evidence-based care and stays updated with clinical research findings and best practices.
  • Performs tests and evaluations, with data analysis and report writing.
  • Performs worksite ergonomic evaluations as appropriate.
  • Supervises temporary OT, COTA, students, and volunteers.
