About The Position

Boston College is seeking an Assistant Supervisor for Carpentry Operations to provide assistance in planning, organizing, supervising, and directing work orders for the Carpentry, Paint, and Lock Shop. This role involves overseeing employees, inspecting completed work, ordering necessary materials, and maintaining budget controls, particularly regarding overtime. The position requires the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while meeting deadlines. This is an essential position that requires availability for campus emergencies at any time. The normal work schedule is Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Candidates must be physically capable of walking the campus, climbing stairs, and using ladders as part of their regular duties.

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills, including the ability to make sound decisions based on available information.
  • Minimum of five (5) years supervisory experience in the field of construction/maintenance, preferably within a large, complex building portfolio or suitable trades environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Chat and Drive) and Smartsheets.
  • Experience with a timekeeping system and work order management system preferred.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to physically walk campus and up stairs and use ladders as a normal part of their duties.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate’s/ Bachelor’s Degree is preferred and/or state licensure for Trades/Construction certifications

Responsibilities

  • Providing assistance in planning, organizing, supervising, and providing direction in relation to prioritization and assignment of work orders for the Carpentry, Paint and Lock Shop.
  • Directing employees including inspection of completed work.
  • Ordering of materials required for work completion.
  • Maintaining appropriate controls in budgeting, particularly in the form of overtime.
  • Demonstrating an ability to administer multiple tasks and projects and continue to meet deadlines.
  • Responding to campus emergencies at any time.
