About The Position

Sabey Construction is hiring an Assistant Superintendent in Austin, TX to play a hands-on role in the field, helping drive the safety, quality, coordination, and day-to-day execution of complex, mission-critical construction projects. You’ll work closely with experienced Superintendents, coordinate trades and subcontractors, support scheduling and commissioning activities, and help keep projects moving safely and efficiently. It’s an opportunity to take on meaningful field responsibility while continuing to develop the skills and leadership experience needed to grow into a Superintendent role. Sabey Construction, Inc. As Assistant Superintendent, you will be a key safety and quality presence in the field, working alongside the Superintendent and Senior Superintendent to keep the jobsite safe, organized, and moving according to plan. You will supervise union Laborers and Carpenters, coordinate with trades and subcontractors, and help lead daily huddles that establish priorities and project flow. This role combines hands-on field leadership with exposure to scheduling, quality assurance, site logistics, documentation, and commissioning. You will have the opportunity to mentor team members while continuing to develop the technical and leadership skills needed to progress toward a Superintendent role.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of construction supervision experience.
  • Journeyman-level experience in your trade.
  • Critical facilities experience.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Working knowledge of building construction and basic building maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and use Bluebeam for plan review and markups.
  • Ability to develop and implement a three-week look-ahead schedule and familiarity with project scheduling concepts.
  • Experience with or ability to work in construction technology platforms such as Procore.
  • Proficiency with construction management software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to communicate effectively with employees, contractors, subcontractors, tenants, and other project stakeholders.
  • Ability to help create consistent project flow while balancing safety, quality, schedule, and field coordination.
  • Self-directed approach, strong initiative, and a desire to continue developing toward a Superintendent role.
  • Aptitude and willingness to learn and utilize AI tools and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Superintendent with planning, scheduling, and coordinating construction activities to meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Monitor project progress and trade partner performance to maintain alignment with the construction schedule.
  • Lead or support daily field huddles to coordinate trades, establish priorities, and create flow across the jobsite.
  • Supervise self-performed work, union Laborers and Carpenters, and trade activities in the field.
  • Conduct regular inspections and quality control checks to ensure work meets project specifications and quality standards.
  • Promote a safe working environment through jobsite oversight, safety meetings, inspections, and incident response.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, materials, and services while helping resolve field issues effectively.
  • Manage onsite logistics, including signage, barricades, and other controls that support safe and efficient project execution.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, progress documentation, change information, and project status reporting.
  • Participate in Level 3 and Level 4 commissioning meetings and support commissioning activities, including load banks and cabling.
  • Monitor commissioning safety and coordinate signage and barricade installation to maintain safe working conditions.
  • Mentor and train team members while contributing meaningful field insight during subcontractor meetings.
