About The Position

This position oversees the daily maintenance and overall condition of the golf course. It involves maintaining frequent communication with the Director of Golf / Head Golf Professional and Golf Course Superintendent to discuss activities, goals, plans, and the customer impact of maintenance activities. The role includes supervising and maintaining irrigation, drainage, and other water-related golf course systems. The Assistant Superintendent will assist with planning, scheduling, instructing, training, and directing crew in the performance of golf course maintenance procedures and job responsibilities. This position assumes management responsibilities as needed in the absence of the Superintendent and ensures that the golf course is maintained to the highest level of quality turf and playing conditions. Communication with customers, co-workers, and the management team is essential, as is the ability to communicate, as directed, maintenance practices and other turf care-related topics. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Management of Ultra-dwarf bermudagrass and other grasses used on the golf course.
  • Insect, weed, and disease management.
  • Agronomy and turf grass management practices.
  • Irrigation systems operation and repair.
  • Rules and strategies of the game of golf.
  • Golf facility construction principles, practices, and methods.
  • Current federal and state laws for pesticide applications.
  • Awareness of safety, health, and environmental concerns.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position is usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Must have, or secure, a Pesticide License for the application of chemicals.
