Requirements

  • B.S. in construction management/science, engineering, or related field and 2+ years of commercial construction experience, OR 6+ years of commercial construction trade experience in lieu of a college degree.
  • Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training required (may obtain within first year of employment).

Responsibilities

  • Assists the superintendent in reviewing record documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schematics to determine project scope, materials, manpower, and equipment needs.
  • Collaborates with the superintendent and project manager to plan jobsite layout, initiate startup activities (site security, trailer placement, utility hookups), and designate storage areas, parking, and crane/hoist locations.
  • Directs field engineers in jobsite survey and layout, ensuring dimensional control lines and elevations are correct and verified by third-party surveyors before foundation work.
  • Plans daily and weekly activities for each craft, including schedule forecasts, and provides technical instructions to foremen.
  • Resolves ambiguities in plans and drawings with project office staff before construction begins.
  • Oversees jobsite safety, including implementing safety plans and procedures.
  • Orders self-performed building materials, supplies, and small tools from approved suppliers.
  • Inspects all field construction work, including subcontracted work, ensuring high-quality workmanship and promptly addressing deficiencies.
  • Provides technical guidance and resolves construction problems, investigating alternative work methods and materials.
  • Monitors weekly labor costs for accuracy and conformance with budget, taking corrective action to improve productivity.
  • Investigates reasons for construction schedule delays and adjusts leadership, crew sizes, and equipment as necessary.
  • Monitors equipment use, maintenance, and cost throughout the project.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and codes.
  • Manages the scheduling of all governmental inspections required for a certificate of occupancy.
  • Administers the company Safety & Health Manual, ensuring employee health and safety, designating first aid areas, and correcting safety hazards.
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with owners, architects, consulting firms, and other stakeholders.
  • Performs project close-out tasks, including punch lists, demobilization, and as-built documents.
  • Maintains detailed and accurate daily reports of all field construction activities.
