About The Position

GAI Consultants is seeking an Assistant Substation CAD Operator 1 to support Substation projects. This position requires working with engineering and other technical subject matter experts in all aspects of electrical substation and protections & controls design services. The successful candidate will perform CAD work of red-lined engineering markups for various substations and/or protection and control engineering projects as well as project support working under engineering supervision. Requirements

  • 1+ Years of Experience
  • Associate Degree from an accredited Technical School
  • Knowledge of plot profiles and user profiles in CAD package.
  • Ability to learn multiple software platforms including, but not limited to, AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Ability to work extended hours or after hours when required.
  • Ability to learn AutoCAD Electrical smart functions and relationships.
  • Able to identify inconsistencies in drawings and communicate these issues of concern to his or her supervisor.
  • Able to take and follow verbal instruction.
  • Possess basic oral and written communication skills.
  • Interacts effectively with other staff.
  • Learns to master and accurately follow instructions from others.

  • Assist in compiling, collating, assembling, and verifying completeness of drawing and project document packages.
  • Assist CAD technicians and CAD operators in the development of their skills as required.
  • Assist with general office function such as printing and issuing drawings and drawing packages.

Responsibilities

  • Opening, revising, plotting, and saving of drawing CAD files.
  • Assist in compiling, collating, assembling, and verifying completeness of drawing and project document packages.
  • Assist CAD technicians and CAD operators in the development of their skills as required.
  • Attend project-specific meetings as required.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under the pressure of deadlines and unexpected developments.
  • Learn and help find ways to improve GAI Engineering CAD Standards.
  • Effective communication with the project team.
  • Basic 2-D line work and text edits as well as ACADE smart functions.
  • Plot and create PDF drawings.
  • Perform red-line edits.
  • Follows basic QA/QC procedures.
  • Assist with general office function such as printing and issuing drawings and drawing packages.
  • Responsible for personal task management and adherence to deadlines and scope.
