About The Position

The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for performing all duties and performance requirements of a Customer Service Representative (CSR) proficiently and consistently. In addition, they will perform managerial and leadership duties, including assisting the Store Manager with recruiting and training new CSR candidates. This role requires proficiency in operating various equipment such as Point of Sale systems, credit/debit card machines, lottery terminals, ATMs, and fuel dispensers. The Assistant Store Manager must handle necessary paperwork transactions, act as an ambassador for SBOC/Han-Dee Hugo’s, champion the Company’s Values and Mission Statement, and address customer complaints professionally and in a timely manner. Good communication skills and the promotion of teamwork within the store are essential. Proficiency in all equipment and reports, along with the capability to immediately activate emergency controls and alarms, handle accidental spills, and use fire extinguishers and emergency shut-offs, is required. The Assistant Store Manager must provide proper leadership for CSRs and set a positive customer experience tone in the store, both in the Store Manager's presence and absence. They will also assist the Manager with store paperwork, scheduling, cash and inventory controls, merchandising, and stocking. The Assistant Manager must be able to perform any tasks assigned to CSRs, including working all shifts, and report any maintenance issues to the Manager. They will assist the Manager in maintaining proper cash levels in the register, ATM, and safe, and help with bank deposits. Additionally, they will assist the Manager with training CSRs to provide excellent customer service. The Assistant Manager must ensure all employees adhere to safety procedures, maintain a safe work environment, recognize and respond to safety issues, and promote a culture of safety. They will work with vendors to ensure Vendor Control Policies are implemented and followed, and are responsible for ensuring the store is clean and ready for inspection. The Assistant Manager must ensure all employees are upselling to optimize sales, attend all company-called training meetings, and ensure employees do not discuss pricing strategies with competitors. Fuel surveys must be completed by visiting competitor locations, and no telephone surveys are allowed. Conversations with competitors regarding fuel prices should be avoided. The Assistant Manager must ensure no warrants are signed or criminal proceedings instigated without direct approval from corporate leadership, and all subpoenas or legal documents must be referred to the Corporate Offices. They must be proficient in ordering convenience store merchandise and fuel products and verify surveillance cameras are working and recording before ending their shift, reporting any issues to the Manager. The Assistant Manager is responsible for the safety and security of all employees while on duty. Assistant Managers and Store Managers should work together to ensure proper management during morning and evening shifts.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Record of success as a Customer Service Representative at SBOC/Han-Dee Hugo’s.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and department manuals.
  • Ability to effectively and positively present information in one - on - one and small group situations to customers and other employees in the organization.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply and divide, calculate percentages and discounts.
  • Ability to grasp cash and Inventory control procedures and basic accounting functions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding, to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Must have some computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties and performance requirements of a Customer Service Representative (CSR).
  • Perform managerial & leadership duties.
  • Assist the Manager with recruiting and training new CSR candidates.
  • Operate Point of Sale equipment, Credit/Debit card machines, Lottery, Lotto, ATM’s, Fuel Dispensers and other equipment.
  • Handle paperwork transactions as necessary.
  • Be an Ambassador for SBOC/Han-Dee Hugo’s at all times.
  • Address customer complaints in a professional and timely manner.
  • Promote teamwork within the store.
  • Be proficient in the use of all equipment and all reports.
  • Be mentally and physically capable of immediately activating emergency controls and alarms.
  • Handle accidental spills, use of Fire Extinguishers and Emergency Shut Offs.
  • Provide proper leadership for CSR’s.
  • Set a “Positive Customer Experience” tone in the store.
  • Assist Manager with completing store paperwork, scheduling and cash and inventory controls.
  • Be proficient in merchandising and stocking the store.
  • Personally handle any of the tasks assigned to CSR’s including working all shifts.
  • Report to the Manager any maintenance issue that needs to be addressed.
  • Assist the Manager in maintaining proper cash levels in the register, ATM and safe.
  • Assist with making bank deposits when required.
  • Assist the Manager with training of CSR’s to give great customer service.
  • Ensure all CSR’s are in compliance with prescribed uniform and visible name tag policy.
  • Perform all safety procedures, such as expeditiously extinguishing fires inside and outside and the use of Emergency Shut Offs.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and be able to recognize and respond to safety issues.
  • Promote a culture of safety.
  • Work with vendors and require Vendor Control Policies to be implemented and followed.
  • Ensure store is clean and ready for inspection inside and outside including restrooms.
  • Ensure all employees are up selling (suggestive selling) to optimize in store sales.
  • Attend and participate in all Training Meetings called by the Company.
  • Ensure all employees do not discuss pricing and pricing strategies with competitors or anyone outside of the Company.
  • Complete all Fuel Surveys by visiting competitor’s location; no Telephone Fuel Surveys are allowed.
  • Avoid any conversations with competitors or their employees regarding fuel prices.
  • Ensure that no warrants are signed or criminal proceedings instigated by any employee without the direct approval of the Vice President, the Director of Operations or Officers of the Corporation.
  • Refer any attempt to serve Subpoena’s or Legal Documents to the Corporate Offices.
  • Be proficient and knowledgeable of ordering convenience store merchandise and fuel products.
  • Verify surveillance cameras are working and recording prior to ending the shift.
  • Inform the Manager if the surveillance camera red record light is not on the recorder.
  • Be responsible for the Safety and Security of all employees while the employees are on duty.
