About The Position

Assist in managing a store engaged in selling discount building materials. This role operates as a 'Working Manager,' meaning the individual gets involved in daily activities and performs any job duties necessary to keep the store operating at maximum efficiency. The Assistant Store Manager will help train partners to maximize profitability, control costs, and offer the best possible customer service. They will also assist in interviewing and hiring to properly staff the store and ensure the integrity of the division. The role requires continually exceeding high levels of profitability and customer service while ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, guidelines, and operating procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of Inventory software; Order processing systems; Payroll systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to walk; sit and climb or balance.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Operate as a 'Working Manager,' performing any job duties necessary to keep the store operating at maximum efficiency.
  • Assist Store Manager in effectively training all partners to maximize profitability, control costs, and offer the best possible customer service.
  • Assist in interviewing and hiring the best candidates to properly staff the store.
  • Continually exceed high levels of profitability and customer service.
  • Ensure the store is following all safety regulations, guidelines, and operating procedures.
  • Plan and prepare work schedules and assign employees to specific duties.
  • Coordinate, participate in, and supervise sales activity and sales promotion, merchandise display preparation and advertising, and taking inventories.
  • Reconcile cash with sales receipts, keep operating records, prepare daily record of transactions for Accounting Department, and perform work of other partners, as needed.
  • Ensure compliance of employees with established security, sales, and recordkeeping procedures and practices.
  • Ensure that company assets are protected through proper compliance of security, credit, financial, safety, audit and other control procedures.
  • Resolve customer complaints and answer inquiries.
  • Lock and secure store.
  • Assist in supervision of 3-5 employees.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
