About The Position

Join the State Attorney’s Office for the First Judicial Circuit of Florida as a Prosecutor in our Pensacola, Florida office! Our office is responsible for the prosecution of all crimes committed in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton counties. We are seeking Assistant State Attorneys that have good judgment and a passion to keep our community safe. We hire Florida Bar members in good standing who have demonstrated an interest in litigation and/or criminal law through course work and internships. We also recruit attorneys with prosecutorial experience for lateral hires. Our prosecutors manage a large caseload, are in court frequently, and prosecute numerous trials. Training and mentoring are provided by senior attorneys. This is truly a unique opportunity to learn to become a first class trial attorney.

Requirements

  • Florida Bar members in good standing.
  • Demonstrated an interest in litigation and/or criminal law through course work and internships.
  • Prosecutorial experience (for lateral hires).
  • Strong interest in courtroom litigation.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Proof of identity.
  • Proof of US citizenship OR legal right to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a large caseload.
  • Be in court frequently.
  • Prosecute numerous trials.
  • Preparation of criminal cases for prosecution requiring legal research, depositions, and interviewing witnesses/victims and other parties to ascertain facts.
  • Trial work includes preparation and summation of detailed case work for presentation of cases in jury and non-jury trials, and the examining and cross-examining of witnesses, defendants, and victims.
  • Professional interaction with the public, law enforcement staff and office staff.
  • Work independently and as a team member.
