About The Position

The Assistant Sports Information Director for Athletics holds an appreciation for and subscribes to the mission, vision, and values of the College. The Assistant Sports Information Director for Athletics understands and is committed to advance the mission, vision, and values of the Athletics Department. The Assistant Sports Information Director supports the promotion, visibility, and storytelling efforts of Concordia College Athletics. This position assists in communicating the accomplishments of Concordia’s student-athletes, coaches, and teams while helping advance the mission and values of NCAA Division III athletics. Working closely with athletics staff, coaches, student-athletes, campus partners, and media outlets, the Assistant Sports Information Director provides information through written content, website management, statistical reporting, social media, and event coverage. This position plays an important role in highlighting the full student-athlete experience, including competition, academics, service, and leadership. This position requires evening and weekend responsibilities tied to the athletics schedule. The role is performed in a fast-paced environment with regular deadlines and frequent interaction with student-athletes, coaches, staff, spectators, and media.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience in athletic communications, sports information, media relations, or a related field preferred
  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of athletic statistics, records management, and event operations
  • Familiarity with website content systems, live stats software, and social media platforms
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and limited travel as required
  • Understanding of and appreciation for NCAA Division III philosophy
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, sports management, public relations, marketing, or related field

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a sports information contact for multiple sports
  • Write and distribute game recaps, previews, feature stories, press releases, and announcements
  • Promote the accomplishments of student-athletes, coaches, and teams
  • Respond to media requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with local, regional, and conference media
  • Maintain and update the athletics website with schedules, rosters, biographies, stories, results, and records
  • Ensure timely and accurate posting of statistics, results, and historical information
  • Assist in the development of feature content that reflects the Concordia Athletics experience
  • Support consistent brand messaging interfaced with Concordia College
  • Compile, maintain, and report statistics in accordance with institutional, conference, and NCAA expectations
  • Maintain team and individual records, archives, and historical data
  • Assist with conference, regional, and national award nominations
  • Track milestones and significant accomplishments across sports
  • Assist with athletics social media planning and execution
  • Oversee live streaming of multiple sports across digital platforms
  • Create content that engages students, alumni, families, and the broader Concordia community
  • Help maintain a consistent and professional digital presence for Concordia Athletics
  • Assist with media operations for home athletic contests
  • Prepare game notes, lineups, scripts, programs, and related materials
  • Support live statistics, scoreboard communication, and postgame reporting
  • Assist with livestream coordination and in-game communication needs
  • Prepare and upload content for football and basketball video boards
  • Oversee video operations for game days
  • In collaboration with the head coach/point person ensure that event scripts, public address announcements, music selections, and other event-related materials reflect the values of athletics
  • Help create a welcoming and professional game day environment
  • Assist in gathering and organizing photos and video for promotional use
  • Work with student workers, photographers, and campus partners to support storytelling through visuals
  • Help maintain a strong visual identity for Concordia Athletics
  • Provide and update virtual content of facilities
  • Assist with the scheduling and coordination of photography (team photos, headshots, event action photos, and community engagement photos) and live event video streaming and video content production (including the end-of-year athletic awards event).
  • Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising student workers involved in sports information, game day operations, and digital communications
  • Provide hands-on learning opportunities for student staff
  • Work collaboratively with coaches, athletics staff, admissions, advancement, and college communications
  • Assist with special events, postseason opportunities, and department-wide initiatives
  • Support a culture that reflects sportsmanship, integrity, service, and the values of NCAA Division III
