About The Position

The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for instructing athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. This role also involves guiding student athletes in developing socially acceptable character, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride in their accomplishments. The coach is expected to continuously upgrade their knowledge and skills through professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport.
  • Knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
  • Willingness to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
  • Ability to serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes.
  • Knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the school and diocese.
  • Knowledge of existing system, state, and league regulations.
  • Understanding of the proper administrative line of command.
  • Awareness of all public, staff, and departmental meetings requiring attendance.
  • Ability to provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant.
  • Ability to direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
  • Ability to monitor equipment rooms and coaches' offices.
  • Ability to examine locker rooms for cleanliness.
  • Responsibility for the cleanliness and maintenance of specific sports equipment.
  • Ability to secure building facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training for softball.
  • Demonstrate and instill behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride in student athletes.
  • Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultations.
  • Serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instruction and actions.
  • Supervise practices, games, locker rooms, buses, and other program-related areas.
  • Know and implement all approved athletic policies, system, state, and league regulations.
  • Interpret regulations for players, parents, and fans as needed.
  • Understand and adhere to the administrative line of command, referring requests or grievances through appropriate channels.
  • Attend public, staff, and departmental meetings as required.
  • Serve as a mentor to each athlete, promoting character traits such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
  • Give attention to student athletes' grades and conduct.
  • Provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant during practices, games, and travel.
  • Communicate training rules and other sport-specific regulations to athletes.
  • Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
  • Monitor equipment rooms and coaches' offices, authorizing access and equipment issuance/requisition.
  • Permit athletes in authorized building areas at designated times.
  • Examine locker rooms for cleanliness before and after practices and games.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of specific sports equipment.
  • Secure all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty.
  • Instill in players respect for equipment and school property, its care, and proper use.
