Come work where you play—and help us inspire healthier, happier lives for everyone! JCPRD is seeking an assistant sewing instructor who’s ready to share their passion of sewing with participants! This position will provide support for our lead instructor on multiple basic level sewing projects for groups who are interested about learning to sew. Assistant instructor will be responsible for helping lead instructor with administering basic sewing lessons, assist students with projects, troubleshooting sewing machines and/or equipment. Offers of employment will be conditional upon passing all appropriate screenings (driver’s license, physical, and criminal background check).

Requirements

  • 2-5 Years of experience sewing personally or commercially.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate activities for youth, ages 8-14 years old.
  • Ability to always respect confidentiality.
  • Ability to provide instruction and demonstration of basic stitching, use of basic patterns for bags, pillowcases, quilting, cushion covers and clothing items, basic machine use, and basic machine maintenance along with trouble shooting.
  • Communicate information with enthusiasm, clarity, and patience.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate use of all equipment.
  • Reference/background screening for all positions.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer 1-2 years of child supervision experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist program participants.
  • Classroom management.
  • Troubleshoot sewing machines as issues arise.
  • Set up and tear down for program.
  • Lead basic sewing skills.
