About The Position

The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the University of Miami invites applications for an Assistant Scientist position. The role focuses on validating and improving numerical model forecasts from the Hurricane Analysis and Forecast System (HAFS), including improvements to data assimilation and large-scale nudging techniques. The scientist will analyze and interpret results, present findings at scientific meetings, and publish results in scientific journals. The work will be conducted in close collaboration with scientists in the Hurricane Research Division (HRD) at NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML). Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science or a related field and have at least one year of relevant postdoctoral experience. Strong programming and scientific communication skills are required. Experience with AI model output would be helpful, and familiarity with research areas aligned with activities at NOAA’s Hurricane Research Division would be particularly valuable. Application materials include a current CV, a statement of interest, and the names of three people who can provide letters of recommendation.
