About The Position

Assistant Scientist position is immediately available at OCCAM Immune, an Academic Research Organization (ARO) located within the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai. OCCAM Immune utilizes state-of-the-art technologies to provide comprehensive immune monitoring services to pharmaceutical and biotech companies engaged in clinical trials. The Senior Scientist provides scientific and technical leadership in the management, design and execution of a clinical research program. The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of scientists and technicians on projects related to various diseases, including cancer, allergy, autoimmunity, neurological disorders, and more. This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain extensive familiarity with a wide array of advanced technologies and biological data, directly influencing pioneering work in translational immunology.

Requirements

  • PhD in Biological Sciences or related field.
  • Two years experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D in sciences or related field.
  • Minimum five years of experience with scientific investigation.
  • Must have demonstrated outstanding achievement in a field of research.
  • Must have contributed to a number of peer-reviewed publications, inventions or the like, at least some of which have had a major impact on advancing the field or discipline.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English with good organizational and analytical abilities and an interested in driving towards publications.
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule is also desirable.
  • Experience with any of above assays (especially in flow cytometry and immune cell phenotyping) and human biospecimen processing would be ideal but is not required, since full platform-specific training on the all the biological assay platforms will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and conducts complex clinical research studies requiring the determination and evaluation of alternative methods.
  • Plans individual workload in coordination with team members.
  • Learns how to use laboratory equipment appropriate for assigned tasks.
  • Learns to conduct routine analyses in compliance with applicable methods, protocols and SOPs.
  • Learns how to document work and maintain study documentation and laboratory records.
  • Analyzes, and interprets clinical data from research studies.
  • Learns to recognize deviations from normal results and informs Principal Investigator and/or management of any problems and/or deviations that may affect the integrity of the data.
  • Supports process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains a clean and safe laboratory work environment.
  • Learns to interact with external partners.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
