About The Position

Temple University's Lewis Katz School of Medicine is searching for an Assistant Scientist to provide technical support by performing scientific experiments within the research lab. The Assistant Scientist will perform experiments on cell and animal models of AD and ADRD, assist the PI and Lab personnel with ordering, maintenance of animal colonies, behavioral studies, lab archives and general lab tasks. The AS will help maintaining lab instruments, calendars for their use and assist the PI in setting up or continuing maintenance contracts. The role requires the ability to independently handle experiments or research projects requiring advanced knowledge and experience in a specific scientific area or discipline. The Assistant Scientist will maintain records of data and may be involved in training graduate and medical students in research methods and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Two years of directly related experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, primary cell cultures with a focus on protein expression and gene (DNA) regulation
  • Familiarity and experience with cell culture, transfection techniques, western blots, PCR, and cell imaging
  • Working knowledge of applicable computer software and applicable professional principles
  • Strong organization and record skills to record experiment results and analyze data
  • Effective communication skills
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree in Neuroscience or related field

Responsibilities

  • Executing experimental protocols
  • Maintaining records on all experiments

  • Collecting and organizing data using statistical software packages

  • Preparing results for presentation at meetings and conferences, research reports, manuscripts and papers
  • Making moderately complex decisions and resolving research problems within established protocols, requiring some independent judgment
