About The Position

The Assistant Sanitation Manager will lead Sanitation operations and supervise, train and direct the sanitation associates. This role reports to and supports the Sanitation Manager or Facility Director in achieving objectives and client expectations within a high-volume bakery manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of experience in sanitation, food production, or manufacturing operations, preferably in bakery or food processing.
  • Supervisory or team lead experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of food safety systems (HACCP, GMP, SSOPs, SQF).
  • Experience supporting plant audits, inspections, and compliance programs.
  • Familiarity with chemical safety, sanitation equipment, and cleaning validation processes.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Solid understanding of budgeting, inventory control, and cost management.
  • Effective communication, leadership, and team-building abilities.
  • Ability to analyze data and implement process improvements.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Operations, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee plant-wide sanitation operations.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, OSHA, GMP, HACCP, and SQF standards, maintaining strict food safety and quality protocols.
  • Assist in the development and execution of Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and Master Sanitation Schedules (MSS).
  • Coordinate and supervise daily sanitation team activities, including task assignments, shift coverage, and performance management.
  • Conduct routine inspections and audits of production and non-production areas to ensure cleanliness, identifying and addressing deficiencies.
  • Maintain audit readiness for internal, customer, and third-party audits, including SQF/BRC certification standards.
  • Partner with production, maintenance, and quality teams to drive cross-functional collaboration and plant efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on waste reduction, labor optimization, and sanitation effectiveness.
  • Assist with chemical control programs, ensuring proper use, storage, and documentation of sanitation chemicals.
  • Monitor and manage sanitation inventory levels, including supplies, PPE, and cleaning equipment.
  • Contribute to budget tracking and cost control, supporting the sanitation department’s financial performance.
  • Lead and reinforce employee training programs, including food safety, sanitation procedures, and workplace safety.
  • Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring adherence to lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Assist with maintenance coordination, including equipment cleaning schedules and preventive maintenance support.
