About The Position

The Head Rodeo Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and administration of the institution's rodeo program. This position provides strategic direction for all aspects of the program, including student-athlete recruitment, coaching, academic success, program operations, budget oversight, fundraising, and compliance. The Head Rodeo Coach fosters a culture of excellence that supports competitive success, student development, sportsmanship, and institutional pride. Additionally, a dorm director is responsible for overseeing daily residential operations, including check-in/check-out processes, facility inspections, and addressing student housing concerns. This role fosters a safe, engaging living environment by ensuring compliance with college policies and housing regulations.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated successful experience in collegiate, professional, or competitive rodeo.
  • Proven leadership experience in coaching, program management, or athletic administration.
  • Strong knowledge of rodeo event operations, training techniques, and student-athlete development.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, mentor, and retain diverse student-athlete populations.
  • Experience managing budgets, operations, and personnel.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; master's degree preferred.
  • Previous collegiate head coaching experience.
  • Experience with fundraising, donor relations, and program development.
  • Familiarity with NIRA rules and regulations.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting and building competitive rodeo programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, vision, and oversight for all aspects of the rodeo program.
  • Plan, organize, and administer practices, training sessions, competitions, and team activities.
  • Recruit and retain student-athletes who demonstrate strong academic potential, athletic ability, and character.
  • Monitor and support the academic progress, retention, and graduation of student-athletes.
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure competitive success in accordance with institutional goals.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches and other program staff.
  • Manage program budgets, including travel, equipment, scholarships, and operational expenses.
  • Coordinate team travel, competition logistics, scheduling, and event management.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, conference regulations, and National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) rules and standards.
  • Maintain accurate records related to recruitment, eligibility, budgets, and program operations.
  • Lead fundraising efforts, alumni relations, and community outreach initiatives to support program growth.
  • Oversee the care, management, and welfare of livestock, facilities, and equipment.
  • Promote a positive team culture emphasizing leadership, integrity, sportsmanship, inclusion, and academic achievement.
  • Represent the institution and rodeo program at campus, community, regional, and national events.
  • Collaborate with campus departments, including admissions, financial aid, academic services, and student affairs, to support student-athlete success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
  • Must attend NJCAA conference or any other conference that is required by the President of Ranger College or the Athletic Director
  • Responsible for completing all required documentation and instructional components for sport and weightlifting courses, including basic syllabus and an active canvas course.
