Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Equine Studies, Sports Management, Recreation, or related field; combination of education and experience may be considered as appropriate.
  • Two years experience in college or competitive rodeo (coaching and/or participation)
  • Hands-on experience with: livestock care and feeding, arena operations and maintenance.
  • Prior experience working with or supervising students (student workers or teams)
  • Experience supporting events, fundraisers, or recruiting activities
  • Knowledge of NIRA rodeo structure and operations
  • Ability to assist with coaching men’s rodeo events in both arenas
  • Organizational skills for operations, reporting, and assessments
  • Ability to assist with program evaluation and administrative tasks
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel occasionally
  • Ability to perform physical tasks related to livestock care and arena work

Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership to enhance the Department of Rodeo Activities.
  • Responsible for helping with all men’s events coaching in both arenas.
  • Responsible for helping with the Annual NIRA rodeo, jackpots, all projects at the arena, and helping with all fundraisers.
  • Help with all recruiting needs.
  • Responsible for helping with daily livestock care and feeding, stall area, and arena upkeep.
  • Oversee all student workers and students who help with feeding and livestock care.
  • Helps to develop, implement, and evaluate departmental goals, policies, organizational structure, and program effectiveness.
  • Responsible for helping with all assessment activities for the department, and responsible for helping with producing annual reports.
  • Participate in appropriate professional development activities related to the effective completion of professional responsibilities.
  • Stay up to date on all trainings.
  • Represents the department and the Division of Student Engagement and Success at University functions when appropriate.
  • Assumes responsibility for other special projects and committee work as delegated.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.
