This is a nurse leadership opportunity for a registered nurse who values clinical excellence, professional growth, and collaboration, and wants to influence positive change. The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is a 16-bed cardiovascular/cardiothoracic critical care unit specializing in the care of patients following open-heart and cardiothoracic procedures. The primary patient population includes post-operative CABG patients, who typically recover in the ICU for 2–3 days, as well as patients requiring ICU-level care after complex cardiac and vascular interventions. Patients include those admitted directly from the operating room following open-heart, vascular, or thoracic surgeries, as well as individuals undergoing TAVR procedures and STEMI interventions. Nurses in the CVICU care for highly complex patients requiring advanced therapies and technology, including: Mechanical ventilation, Swan-Ganz catheters, Vasopressors and inotropic infusions, High-alert medication drips, Intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), Impella devices, Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), and Chest tube management. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:2, with 1:1 assignment for highly acute patients. Staffing is acuity-based, with flexibility to meet the needs of the unit and ensure safe, high-quality care. Under the direction of the nurse manager or other nursing leader, the assistant nurse manager has responsibility for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the hospital and the nursing department and their effect on patient care in the department.
