About The Position

At Episcopal Community Services (ECS), employees work with participants who may be experiencing homelessness, behavioral health conditions, substance use challenges, and other difficult life circumstances. While this work is meaningful and mission-driven, it can at times be stressful, demanding, or unpredictable. Employees are expected to exercise sound judgment, remain aware of their surroundings, follow established safety, communication, and de-escalation procedures, participate in all required trainings, and promptly report incidents, threats, injuries, or unsafe conditions, in accordance with ECS policies and procedures. This position is a fully onsite, client-facing role that requires in-person interaction and direct service delivery to participants at ECS program locations. Due to the essential nature of the duties and the need for consistent in-person engagement with clients, remote work or work-from-home arrangements are not available for this position.

Requirements

  • Must have experience working in a shelter environment, using participant-centered, harm reduction approaches.
  • Must have supervisory experience.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills are essential.
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Outlook, Word and basic knowledge of Excel.
  • Must foster teamwork and have the ability to work independently.
  • Must secure finger image screening and annual TB screening.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements of the position which may include long periods of sitting at a desk and/or computer station; lifting items that weigh up to 40 pounds; reaching, bending, and stooping within the daily routine of task and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and assist a team of Residential Services Coordinators in performance of all operational and participant services at the site.
  • Serve as decision maker for critical decisions relating to participants, staff, and the operation or residential services.
  • Manage a team of Residential Services Coordinators providing scheduling, supervision, training and support.
  • Manage team in accordance with policies and procedures of Episcopal Community Services, protocols of Union Collective Bargaining Agreement, and site policies and procedures.
  • Conduct individual weekly supervision sessions and performance appraisals of staff.
  • Conduct daily ECS Shift Change Meetings, including instruction to Residential Services Coordinators, review of log entries, incident reports, and feedback from Case Manager and other ECS staff.
  • Act as decision maker in unusual or critical situations relating to participants’ service and operational matters, consulting with the Support Services Manager or Program Director as needed.
  • Ensure equitable and appropriate enforcement of site rules.
  • Review daily reports, and Incident Reports prior to submitting them to the Residential Services Manager.
  • Ensure safe and healthful environment for all staff and participants.
  • Welcome visitors to the site in the absence of the Residential Services Manager.
  • Ensure peaceful diffusion and employ de-escalation techniques in incidents involving violence or threats of violence.
  • Mediate heated situations among participants and support staff following involvement in incidents.
  • Inform Case Management Team about behavioral health concerns with participants.
  • Notify HR of all threats of violence and conduct debrief meetings with all staff onsite after violent situations.
  • Ensure staff are actively engaged with participants during shift.
  • Provide information and case management referrals to participants about services provided at the site.
  • Oversee operations ensuring a safe environment for staff and participants.
  • Ensure safety policies are consistently implemented and adhered to.
  • Manage or assist with site-specific emergencies or crises.
  • Carry out regular health and safety building inspections to ensure necessary repairs and maintenance tasks are reported.
  • Maintain sufficient office supplies, first aid and cleaning supplies, and participant forms are available.
  • Attend and actively participate in management meetings.
  • Assist and advise in formulating new policies and procedures and revision of existing ones in collaboration with the Residential Services Manager and Program Director.
  • Handle call-offs ensuring coverage and approving timesheets for all staff who work during shift.
  • Occasionally drop in or switch days on days not regularly assigned to ensure continuity of shift.
  • Comply with the requirements of the confidentiality and participant record policies.
  • Attend all meetings and training assigned.
  • Perform all duties as assigned.
