About The Position

Gateways to Change is a non-profit agency providing services to adults with developmental and physical disabilities in residential and community settings. We are looking for a dedicated and committed Assistant Director who possesses strong skills in initiating skills, following through on recommendations, organizational tasks (scheduling, filing, ordering supplies, inventory, petty cash management), supervision, communication, and program development (writing goals, objectives, setting up teaching programs, and analyzing data). The role also requires good observation skills and an even temperament. The work schedule is forty (40) hours per week, second shift (3pm-11pm), including weekends, with availability by telephone or beeper during non-work hours.

Requirements

  • Some college in Human Services
  • One year working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Valid driver's license and existing insurance, registrations & inspection
  • Provide a criminal background check with no disqualifying offenses
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Create, adapt, and maintain daily and weekly schedules of staff and consumer activities to ensure all recommended programs are carried out, sufficient staff are scheduled, and staff use their time effectively for agency business.
  • Provide direct instruction to consumers, modeling teaching and intervention techniques developed and recommended by the treatment team.
  • Conduct/arrange and document staff training for all residential staff in areas including Human Rights, Behavior Management, First Aid, Administration of Medication, Detecting Illness and Dysfunction, Communicable Diseases, Sexuality, Normalization, Data Taking, and Household Systems.
  • Demonstrate respect and a caring attitude toward clients.
  • Maintain confidentiality of clients and programs.
  • Communicate pertinent information on clients' needs and programs to team members.
  • Effectively communicate with residential staff to ensure client needs are met and quality service delivery.
  • Effectively communicate with families to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Take appropriate action on family/program concerns that have been communicated.
  • Interact positively with staff members, resource and consultant staff, and supervisory staff, accepting constructive feedback and taking action based on it.
  • Actively participate in directors meetings and trainings when requested.
  • Work cooperatively with all team members and follow through on recommendations.
  • Exhibit professional demeanor in language, dress, and behavior.
  • Effectively interact with people in the community, conveying a positive attitude toward the agency and clients.
  • Follow established staff procedures as described in the Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Assist Director in completing the ISP process.
  • Assist Director in collecting annual reports from professionals in other disciplines in a timely manner.
  • Model teaching programs from goals and objectives and develop systems for collecting data and monitoring progress for each area.
